14 days to go…
September 26th, 2009

Yesterday I sent off two paintings to the Bundaberg Arts Festival… I hope they arrive in good condition and good time. One painting is for the section themed ’sea change’ for that I painted a cassowary family at Etty Bay (where they can be found locally) and my second art piece is for the portrait section. I painted a portrait of local Bundaberg identity Rebecca Berrett – children’s book illustrator.
The 42nd Innisfail Art Society Biennial Art Exhibition is 14 sleeps away… and I am looking forward to it more than ever before. Not because it is one of the biggest Art Exhibitions in North Queensland and has the most prize money but because I will be able to breath a sigh of relief. The logistics of putting together a show of this size is amazing. It has been over twelve months in he making, $8 500 in donated prize money and the local businesses have come through with support in so many ways.
The exhibition is to be officially opened by Mr Herb Layt (Patron of the Innisfail Art Society) on Saturday Night the 10th October in the Innisfail Shire Hall. The show will be open 10am – 7pm each day till Saturday the 17th October. Sunday morning has free entry to follow the Judge (Bernhardine Mueller, Sydney based print maker) around the exhibition and listen to her critique each piece. A great learning oportunity to find out about your art. the critique is followed by an Art Deco luncheon and ‘Art in Art Deco’ talk by Robin Grow (President Art Deco and Modernism Society Aust) after which Bernhardine Mueller will have a presentation of her own work. WOW a full day of art related activities to be had by all.
